Honoring Mia Ibrahim
Mia was an amazing music educator and advocate for marginalized youth and communities. In their career, they worked as the department head at Health Opportunities High School in the Bronx and worked with their students to form a Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA). They were passionate about ensuring the voices of LGBTQ2IA+ students were heard, and Mia led several sessions during the Modern Band Summit to help support other educators in this work. It was not uncommon for Mia to forego planned music lessons to help their students better understand themselves and the world around them.
This scholarship hopes to maintain their legacy by providing opportunities to educators who are passionate about continuing this work in the music education community.

The Mia Ibrahim Modern Band Summit Scholarship covers the cost of Modern Band Summit registration, housing, and a $250.00 travel stipend.
If selected, you must register for the conference by April 8 to secure the scholarship.
