With programs in over 600 school districts across the United States, Music Will is redefining music education by focusing on modern genres and empowering students to start playing on day one.

This news segment turns the spotlight on how the organization’s work is making a measurable difference in New York public schools, specifically at Lower Manhattan Community Middle School, NYC.

Spotlight on Music Education Impact in New York City

The modern band program, led by Laura Del Rosso, a passionate music educator and Music Will Ambassador, whose classroom embodies what’s possible when students are given the opportunity to explore music that resonates with their lives. Through Music Will’s modern band curriculum, students learn to play contemporary genres like hip-hop, rock, and pop, while also writing and performing their own original songs.

In one especially impactful moment, a student shared her journey through the program:

“This program is literally the reason I am excited to come to school every day.”

“I was once a shy 6th grader who was scared to touch the piano. Now, it’s my dream to be on Broadway one day.”

This transformation is at the heart of Music Will’s work—empowering students to create, collaborate, and connect through music that reflects their culture, community, and identity.
