What We Do:
- Our Approach: We are the nation’s largest music education nonprofit providing musical instruments, teacher training, curriculum, and resources to public schools across the country over the last 20 years, impacting over 1.2 million students.
- Our Program: Our modern band curriculum is as diverse as the students we serve, comprising rock, hip-hop, pop, R&B, Latin, country, jazz, and even mariachi genres – and because of that, our students feel represented, accepted, and welcomed. It encourages them to keep on learning and participating.
- Our Reach: Our program is available in schools across all 50 states, and we have provided teacher training for over 6,000 teachers.
- The organization aims to reach a million more students in the next five years.
- Our Impact: We don’t just donate instruments to schools. We also provide free teacher training, curriculum, and resources – everything a school needs to launch a music program from the ground up.
- We continue to provide resources and professional development opportunities to teachers in our network so they can continue expanding their programs and reach more students.
Why It Matters:
- Nearly 3.7 million students do not have access to music education in school, according to The Arts Education Data Project.
- A disproportionate number of those students are concentrated in schools in major urban communities and are either majority Black or Hispanic.
- Music Will’s mission is rooted in social justice, striving to bring equity to music education by providing resources to underserved schools and helping them launch music programs.
- Music students score significantly better in science, math, and English than their nonmusical peers, according to a study published by the American Psychological Association.
- 85% of Music Will teachers report that since implementing their program in the classroom, their students are more engaged in school.
- Schools with music programs have an estimated 90.2% graduation rate, compared to 72.9% for schools without music programs.
